The first EOGL 2020 Board of Directors meeting took place on February 6, under the auspices of this year’s London ICE exhibition.

On this occasion, the participants familiarized themselves with the latest and anticipated Industry regulatory trends for 2020, including a summarized report mapping the risks of over-regulation in the sports betting business.

All the participants underlined the importance of bringing into line these upcoming changes and operators’ overall business interests.

The EOGL Board of Directors Meeting took place on February 7, under the auspices of 2019 London ICE Totally Gaming. Summarizing the key Industry events in 2018 was one part of the meeting. After it, all the participants underlined the necessity of adapting to the upcoming regulatory changes with regards to AML, taxation and responsible gambling policies.

For these trends not to be burdensome, the Industry will continue insisting on strict dedication to free provision of services within the EU Internal Market, fair competition and reasonable and sustainable taxation.

For 2019, EOGL announces a further promotion of the Responsible Gaming measures. This step will encourage operators and associations to keep complying with best Industry practices on a global scale.

To this end, all the Board of Directors attendees agreed on the necessity of further improvement of contacts and cooperation with EU bodies in charge for gambling and supporting industries.

EOGL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING 2018 HELD IN LONDON

The Annual EOGL Executive Committee Meeting was held during, under the auspices of the 2018 ICE Totally Gaming B2B Event in London. Once again, all the Committee’s participants, mostly representatives of sports betting operators, underlined the Industry’s firm dedication to fundamental principles of free provision of services within the EU Internal Market, as well as to the values of fair competition and reasonable and sustainable taxation.

During the meeting, the biggest emphasis was put on the implications following the decision made by the European Commission to close all pending infringement cases and outstanding complaints against EU Member States, in their respective national provisions regulating online gambling which are deemed to be in breach of the EU acquis. It was ascertained that EOGL will continue encouraging all the European gaming industry subjects to file cases at the European Court of Justice (ECJ).

Furthermore, in spite of the decision made by the EU Commission, which is to bring adverse effects to the Industry as a whole, EOGL will continue to regularly communicate with the EU institutions with the aim of promoting a consolidated approach to regulating the EU gaming market.
